Somehow I’ve missed the update for the OpenOffice 3.0.0 Beta. Nonetheless Beta 2 is now available which features — just like Beta 1 already did — a native mac ui and does no longer use the X11 framework.

Apple just released an update for iTunes. The release notes indicate that iTunes 7.7.1 “includes fixes to improve stability and performance”.
You can download this iTunes update by opening Software Update (Apple menu > Software Update).

The new WordPress App [attention: iTunes link] available for free from the Apple AppStore.
It allows you not to only manage an unlimited number of WordPress based blogs. It also allows the inclusion of pictures taken from the iPhone builtin camera or from your photoroll.
You can specify title, tags, publish state, category and the body of a new blog entry and preview once you are done.
You can also edit all your existing entries.
Unfortunately it does not make use of a landscape mode keyboard. And once you’ve added a photo it will present you with a mess of HTML tags in the editor.
The iPhone included spellchecker will drive you crazy if you try to write posts in a different language than the one set in your phone :-|
Edit: Meanwhile wordpress.org published their own releasenotes about this application.

I’m just trying out that neat WordPress App that just became available in the Apple AppStore. I wonder if I can include photos.

Today the iPhone Dev team announced version 2.0.1 of their Pwnage Tool that allows users to activate and jailbreak iPhone devices (and unlocks 1st gen. devices).
This is a bugfix release that addresses some issues that users discovered.
- It auto-finds the bl39 and bl46 files better, if they’re on your computer
- It creates the ~/Library/iTunes/Device Support/ folder if not present, which should help with some 1600 errors people have been having.
- Many people have reported the PwnageTool not starting up at all (the icon never stops bouncing). This issue should be resolved now.
- The Sparkle AppCast URL is fixed in this version, so automatic updates should work for future releases.
Because of the last of the issues mentioned above it is highly recommended for all users to grab the new release in order to stay up-to-date with the builtin auto update mechanism.
There are several mirror sites available to provide the download. So go and grab yours now.

The iPhone Dev team finally released the 2.0 incarnation of their wellknown iPhone activation/jailbreak/unlocking tool.
Currently only available as a mac binary it allows users to do the following:
- iPhone (1st Gen) with 2.0 - Activated, Unlocked & Jailbroken, (with support for third party applications).
- iPod Touch with 2.0 - Activated & Jailbroken, (with support for third party applications).
- iPhone (3G) with 2.0 - Activated, Jailbroken (with support for third party applications).
There is currently no 2.0 capable version of the Nullriver/RipDev Installer.app to install additional 3rd party applications but there is Cydia which allows that in a different approach.
If you are unable to edit your EDGE APN settings (e.g. you are on a legit iPhone carrier but with a nonlegit mobile data plan) you cannot just install some hack via your installer/cydia. There is just no such hack available yet.
You can work around this by downloading the official Apple iPhone configuration utility and create a profile attachment that contains your APN settings and mail this profile to your phone (and then execute that attachment). This will change your APN settings to those in the profile.
