Vivere Militare Est went to “The Throne of New Tunaria” last night. After clearing quite some huge trash encounters we managed to get the first named in the zone to spawn — The Harbinger of Absolution. We also got a nice priest wrist set item (Bangle of Polished Marble) from the 2nd trash mob we engaged.

This named is a joke for all the work you have to do to actually engage him. He went down without the slightest chance to wipe the raid — and he dropped a nice tank tower shield (Stoneshield Bulwark).

We also tried our luck on the 2nd named who is said to drop no loot at all.

legends_of_norrath-small.pngWhile the Legends of Norrath release slowly approches I was not only collecting loot cards for some nice server first discoveries, I’ve also built me a nice priest deck and started playing the scenarios that are available. Together with the beta access I got a free Starter Packand 2 Boosters. each week I get additional 2 Booster for free while the beta runs.

These scenarios are divided into 3 chapters and you need to progress through them — some scenarios are marked optional and may be skipped.

After struggeling with all the rulesets — my native language is german and not english — I managed to get quite addiced to the CCG itself.

I finished 2 of the 3 chapters and and approached the end of chapter 3 (see screenshot). One might skip all the storyline that is included with each scenario but please give it a try and read it.

Update: Wow scenario 14 is tough. My opponent quickly takes away my heros with his +3 damage bonus item and I don’t know how to get rid of that. Anyone with some hints?

Yesterday we had a Mistmoore Inner Sanctum raid planned. After entering Mistmoore Castle we were greeted by quite some lag coming from the 96+ players that were ideling right inside at the zoneline.

We proceeded to to the Inner Sanctum Epic x 4 zone and had a smooth run. Eventually we ended up in front of Mayong Mistmoore and this time we managed to take him down in a 19 minute 39 second battle. What a great moment.

We got a nice troubadour and necro set chest item and I was able to get my 3rd templar set item from some other named. (3) Set bonus from the templar set is somewhat superiour to the same bonus from the inquisitor set.

(Templar) Divination Set:

Divination (3) Bonus

(Inquisitor) Chaplain’s Armor of Piety Set:

Chaplain’s Armor of Piety (3) Bonus

Oh, and while we smashed Mayong to the ground we noticed that this would have finally finished our Swords of Destiny questseries. And — yes — we got our Lucanic weapons upgraded to Soulfire weapons from the questgiver in Butcherblock.

Oh — Ogrebears passed 1600 quests on the EQ2 Kithicor server. Well done friend - congratulations.

Meanwhile I stall at my 1694 quests because of saving up all completed quests for the Rise of Kunark release in November. It’s still some time till then but who cares ;)

I guess I can keep my ranking on Valor for some more weeks.

I really like sites like eq2idb.com or the Xanadu Community Loot page but there a few things that I miss. Mostly it is the fact that both sites are in english language and list EQ2 items just in english language.

Unfortunately I play on an international server — to be specific ‘Valor’ one of the two german language servers. All our item names, zones and mobs are in german language.

Playing on a non english localized server has its difficulties. Even while most stuff is written in german some stuff is not and you cannot actually bet on something that used to be german for the last two years to still be german after the next time you are starting the patcher. We are cursed with a german logfile that turns peaceful raiders into angry customers once they notice that their beloved EQ2 logparser (e.g. Advanced Combat Tracker) stops working every once and a while because SOE had to change the format of the output _again_. Don’t make me start telling you that quests are horrible since NPCs tell you 4 phrases in german the 5th in english and the 6th gets cut of in the middle of the sentence or even the lag that is created by some sort of just-in-time translation engine that SOE uses :-)

Okay that was enough offtopic chitchat.

fo0bar.org eq2item database. This is planed to be an easy to use database just like eq2idb.com with the exception that you can also search for items with their alternate language names. It is currently just filled with items I was able to get my hands on (approx 1200) but it fills up quickly with new items. Item screenshots and stats will get added to all current and future items by the end of the week — so do not worry about the very modest information it currently spits out once you search for something.

Want to help filling the database? Send me your eq2 logfiles — please .zip them — (no matter if english, french, japanese or german) to

eq2item [at] fo0bar [dot] org

Oh and not to forget — how can you reach fo0bar.org eq2item database? It is right here.

Yesterday SOE patched the Legends of Norrath ingame TCG into EQ and EQ2. It is a fantasy based trading card game similar to popular titles like Magic: The Gathering.

Unfortunately Legends of Norrath is currently in a closed beta status. Attendees of the 2007 SOE Fan Faire in Las Vegas get exclusive opportunity to try out the game on their live servers. Unlike other betas this one is different. The usual rule of the thumb for betatests is ‘what happens on beta — stays on beta’. This means that everything you earn while in a beta is lost once it ends.

LoD beta is different. Everything you earn while on beta will stay in your possession after beta ended. This includes the looted cards and the special rewards that are associated with some of the cards. These rewards differ from game to game but seem to be very nice and people will really want them.

Included are some really nice mounts (for EQ2 you will be able to obtain 2 carpet mounts and 2 armored worg mounts), Adventuring, Tradeskill and AA boost potions, a nice set of cloaks that have nice boni, house items, crafting recipes and illusion items.

In EQ2 once can access LoD using the EQ2 menu or by issuing the /tcg command. Even while not being part of the beta test you can try out the tutorial and read more information about the game in the LoD window that will open.

UPDATE: Beta is no longer closed. It got opened to email applications.

GU37 hit the test servers last night and it features a ton of new stuff. Patching the test client took about 20 minutes for me using a 2Mbit connection.

Highlights of this game update (GU):

  • Multiple character broker sale: You can now sell stuff using the broker one more than one character per account. Have a ton of alts? Use them all to sell your stuff. No more transferring all your goodies to the designated broker character.
  • Persistent raid instances: This feature was actually listed as something new for the upcoming “Rise of Kunark” expansion in November. But now we get it for the Emerald Halls zone with this game update. Tired raiding EH for the whole day? So just call it a night and come back tomorrow to continue your raid. The EH zone is now a persistent zone. You can keep raiding it for up to 10 days or choose to raid a fresh EH instance after 5 days. (This feature is not yet on the test server — at least there is no code for it in the UI .xml files.)
  • Merchant buyback: Accidentally sold some precious item to the NPC? Just buy it back if it was one of the last 10 items you’ve sold.
  • AA points are nolonger locked to the tree you’ve originally assigned them: Let’s say you have 50 AAs and spent 30 in the KoS tree and 20 in the EoF tree. Previously theses AAs were locked to the tree but now you can choose to spend e.g. 45 to the KoS and 5 to the EoF tree after a respec. The old rule that you can only spend 50 points per tree is still effective!
  • Smart Loot: Tired of seeing the same set items dropping over and over and over? All your tanks already have the set item that your recently killed mob can drop but you still get a tank set item? No-more! The loot system is now aware about what et item your raidmembers already possess. If all character but you already have e.g. the set leg slot items that the mob used to drop then the mob will have your leg slot set item in the chest. 100% money back guaranty. Please note that this feature is not yet listed in the patch notes but you can find information in this SOE forum thread.
  • Traveling in Butcherblock Mountains/Greater Faydark/Neriak: Those zones are huge and you always have to run the same paths to reach your destination. Now the new and improved griffon towers and pony express stations are available for your. Butcherblock Mountains now features a griffon tower at the docks, the Lesser Faydark and the Greater Faydark zonelines. Greater Faydark now features a pony express that will allow your to travel to various destinations within the zone. Neriak the newly rediscovered city of evil now allows players to use the sea-gate to travel to Nektulos forest or Thundering Steppes (for free!).
  • As always this GU also includes a huge amount of other changes that can be found in the test server patch notes linked at the end of this article. This includes but is not limited to AA changed, spell changes, quest changes, tradeskill changes.

You can find the official test server patch notes at the SOE EQ2 forums.

According to information gathered from eq2players GU36 patch is imminent.

Game Update 36 is headed to the live servers this coming Thursday, the 28th of June.

GU36 features quite some changes to the AA lines, includes a new Epic x4 Zone called “The Throne of New Tunaria” and more:

  • Coin is now weightless and automatically changes up to the best denominations.
  • Want to know how an item would look on you (regardless if you are actually able to equip it)? The new “Dressroom” makes it possible. Just Ctrl + Click on an item link or a store item.
  • The Swords of Destiny quest finds its end in the final chapter 3 that is now available. It results into somewhat nice legendary weapons that can get upgraded to fabled versions by doing a raid in “The Throne of New Tunaria”.
  • You can dismiss your current tradeskill profession to start over from scratch. All your existing recipes and counter arts are lost when doing so.
  • There is quite a bunch of crafting changes to ease your life.
  • Ofcourse this is not all that got changed. An official patch note is not yet available on the SOE forums, but it will get linked here ASAP.

Edit: Patch notes can be found here at the SOE forums.

For an inside glimpse into “The Throne of New Tunaria” read on. Read the rest of this entry »
